Name Change to The British Omani Society (formerly The Anglo-Omani Society)

From August 2023 The Anglo-Omani Society will be called The British Omani Society. Our charitable objects and activities remain the same under this new name. Our website, email addresses and social media have all changed name accordingly.

You can now find our website at: www.britishomani.org, please do visit it. We have recently published our new events programme packed full of Oman related talks, screenings, lectures, food and music – we hope you will find something to pique your interest! We are also currently recruiting for our next Arabic Language Scheme, a fully funded opportunity for current and recent students to travel to Oman to improve their Arabic and explore the culture and country (deadline: 31 Oct 2023). This, as well as information about our online Arabic classes, future opportunities for young people, podcasts, webinars and the latest news from The Society are all on our website.

For general email enquiries you will be able to contact us on rsvp@britishomani.org (re-directs are set-up from our old staff email addresses for a transitional period – so you will still be able to get in touch with us). Our social media account names will all be updated shortly and any of you who are existing followers of our social channels will remain followers under the re-named accounts.

Richard Stanford, Chairman of The British Omani Society says: “The change of our name comes following the vote at our most recent Annual General Meeting. The British Omani Society aligns with the description of the Society in the Royal Decree in Oman, which followed the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement in 2019 between Oman and the UK, and better represents the population of Britain. The role of the Society remains unchanged, to preserve, promote and enhance the unique relationship between Britain and Oman.”
