Our Mission

“The British Omani Society builds on deep roots of friendship, shared values and respect to create connections, inspire cross-cultural understanding, and empower the next generation to shape a vibrant shared future between Oman and the UK.”

Our Charitable Objects

To advance the education of the British and Omani public through the promotion of learning and a wider knowledge about each others’:

  • Youth: our new generation of both Omani and British young people.
  • Culture: in its broadest sense, including people, history, literature, arts, music, antiquities, languages, cultures, religions, beliefs, customs, creative industries and sport.
  • Business: encompassing economy, industry and commerce.
  • Environment: including geography, natural heritage and sustainability work.

Achieving impact in these areas by providing:

  • Events & Resources: which enhance understanding of the above including. lectures, seminars and meetings and online resources including. blogs, podcasts, recordings and webinars, which may be accessible to the public as well as members of the Society.
  • Financial Assistance: for individuals and organisations via grants, bursaries, awards, scholarships and other financial support that contribute to our objectives.
  • A Place to Connect: Offering a confluence for the government, youth, academic and private sectors of both countries to develop their cross-cultural activities. This includes hosting external and online events and meetings in line with our charitable objects.
  • A Platform to Showcase Oman – UK Success Stories: through our website blog, social media and newsletters. Also via awards, media and speaking opportunities.

and by supporting:

  • Education & Skills Building: training, apprenticeships, volunteering, internships, knowledge exchange, connecting education and training establishments.
  • External/partner projects and events that are aligned to our charitable objects and where the event may be fully or partially funded. 

Our Story

The British Omani Society (BOS) is a charitable membership organisation. The Society was formed in January 1976 as The Anglo-Omani Society, with HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said as the Society's founding Patron. Our Patron is now HM Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and HE The Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in London is our President.

Our head office is in London. We host a regular series of events in the UK, Oman and online for our members and wider contacts.
