Silver of the Sultanate: Festive Gathering & Omani Jewellery Collection Private View

Wednesday 10th Dec 2025, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Join members, friends, and Trustees of the Society at 34 Sackville Street for a festive reception and special private viewing of our unique collection of Omani silverware and jewellery, led by Dr Aude Mongiatti of the British Museum.

This special evening offers a rare opportunity to explore the Society’s extraordinary collection of Omani silver jewellery and silverware, originally donated by Sheilagh Bailey in 2013 and since enriched by further generous gifts from our members. Much of the collection originates from Dhofar and showcases the distinctive craftsmanship of the region.

Dr Aude Mongiatti, a leading expert on Omani silver at the British Museum, will highlight the significance of these remarkable items, exploring the craftsmanship, history, and cultural narratives behind each piece.

We warmly encourage all members who own Omani jewellery to wear their pieces on the night, or bring them along to showcase to fellow enthusiasts.

In addition to the jewellery viewing, our end-of-year festive reception is a chance for members and supporters of the Oman–UK relationship to come together, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and celebrate the cultural and historical ties between our two nations.

About Sheilagh Bailey
A distinguished former member of His Majesty’s Palace Office in Oman, Sheilagh Bailey’s service to the Sultanate was recognised with the prestigious Order of Oman. Her remarkable collection, which includes jewellery, daggers, kohl pots, and Qur’an boxes, offers a unique insight into Omani artistry and heritage. The Society’s collection now also includes other beautiful pieces donated by members, forming a unique and significant collection.
