Join us for the London premiere screening of Episode 2 of the Award Winning film A House of Wonders + Director's Talk & Q&A, at The Princess Anne Theatre, 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN.

A House of Wonders is an award-winning multimedia project including a series of three films, an illustrated book, and an educational program. The films are narrated from an Omani perspective and can be considered as the missing element to an essential debate.

The project is a German-Omani coproduction investigating the historical relations between Oman and East Africa while taking the arrival of the European colonial powers into account. Narrated by the Beit al Ajaib as a material witness to this relationship, the films follow the biographies of three pivotal characters covering a span of 150 years. The film won first price for documentary at the ASBU in Tunis in June 2024.

During this event attendees will view Episode 2, 'The Age of Caravans - Tippu Tip' (55 min.), which is narrated by the House of Wonders in Stonetown, Zanzibar. The episode discusses elements of exchange between Oman and East Africa by tracing the life and deeds of one of the most controversial characters in the Sultanate's history.

The screening will be preceded by a talk and Q&A with the film's co-producer and co-director, Friedrich Kluetsch. Kluetsch will talk about evolution, narrative approach, and impact of the project. This event is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of The Sultanate of Oman in London.

The session will be chaired by Stuart Laing, former Chairman of the Society, and copies of a new edition of his biography of Tippu Tip, signed if you would like, will be available for members to purchase (cash only please, £25 - change cannot be provided). Please feel free to bring existing copies for the author's signiture.
