Ammar Al Balushi is currently a research associate at Wood Mackenzie, in the UK. He is also a previous participant of the British Embassy Muscat's scholarship programme.

In recent years, Oman has led the region in announcing hydrogen and ammonia ambitions with the aim to become a market leader by 2030. However, the global wave of optimism surrounding low carbon hydrogen and ammonia has scaled back as the challenges of scaling a hydrogen economy have become clearer.
Oman’s hydrogen ambitions are now faced with the complex challenge of progressing its announced portfolio to FID amidst global uncertainty. While reaching the FID on all the announced capacity thus far will be challenging, there remains pathways to spur developments to enable the Sultanate to achieve its 2030 goal of producing 1Mtpa of low carbon hydrogen.

About the host
In his role as a research associate at Wood Mackenzie, Ammar Al Balushi supports in developing ammonia long-term supply and demand outlooks and price forecasts. Ammar has also supported efforts related to hydrogen market quarterly trackers as well as leading workstreams on hydrogen industry themes and deal flow.
Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Ammar was a trainee at the Nama Power and Water Procurement Company in the Sultanate of Oman. During his traineeship, Ammar was involved in the development of various utility scale power and water desalination projects across Oman.
Ammar has a MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. He is based in Edinburgh and is fluent in both English and Arabic.
