Ian Stephenson

Events and Programming Assistant

Ian joined the British Omani Society in July 2026 as the Programming and Events Assistant. He holds an MPhil in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge, where he studied Arabic poetry and the cultural history of the Middle East and North Africa.

Previously, Ian worked with international security and humanitarian organisations in Jerusalem and Amman, conducting research on the impacts of conflict and climate change on natural resource security. During this time, Ian worked alongside Bedouin communities in the Jordan Valley, documenting local ecological knowledge to support biodiversity conservation initiatives.

This experience initiated a deep interest in the history and culture of the Arab world and Oman in particular. He looks forward to contributing to the Society’s mission of strengthening the relationship between the UK and Oman, especially through building new connections and collaboration between young people and alumni.
