The British Omani Society Hosts Delegation "Future Skills: AI's Role in Transforming Education and Workforce Development"

London, UK – November 13, 2024  

The British Omani Society (BOS) successfully hosted a three-day New Generation Group (NGG) delegation in London, focusing on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and workforce development. This year’s theme, titled “Future Skills: AI’s Role in Transforming Education and Workforce Development", convened a distinguished panel of experts to examine the multifaceted impacts of AI on education and career development.

Held from November 7-9, 2024, the NGG delegation gathered 24 future leaders from Oman and the United Kingdom (UK). The programme featured thought-provoking lectures, interactive panel discussions, and networking opportunities, fostering dialogue and collaboration at the intersection of AI and future skills.

In his opening remarks, Sheikh Ma'an Hamed Al Rawahi, NGG Chairman, underscored the significance of equipping today’s youth with the tools and skills to navigate the world of tomorrow and highlighted AI’s capability to revolutionise educational frameworks and career trajectories. Mr. Faris Jamal Khodr, Counsellor to the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the UK, highlighted the importance of the long-standing friendship between the two nations, and the responsibility of the new generation to uphold these ties. He further emphasised the importance of the delegation’s theme to Oman’s Vision 2040.

Speakers, panelists, and participants explored how AI tools are reshaping classroom instruction, personalising learning experiences, and preparing industries for AI-driven changes.

Reflecting on the delegation’s success, BOS Chairman Major General (Retd) Richard Stanford CB MBE stated, “this event underscored the importance of equipping our young people with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-enabled future. The British Omani Society remains committed to fostering cooperation and exchange of ideas to prepare the next generation of Omanis and British nationals for the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

Shuaib Al Rawahi, NGG Oman Team Leader, expressed gratitude to all speakers, participants, and sponsors for their support in making this event a success. Dr. Taha Al Saadi, an Omani delegate representing Sultan Qaboos University, stated that “the delegation was an invaluable experience, providing unparalleled exposure to how AI is shaping education and career development. It reinforced the power of cross-border collaboration in harnessing technology for societal growth.”

UK participant, Tom Kenny from Grenergy Renovables, stated, “the programme was impressive. Understanding AI’s broader implications on the workforce and future skills development has been invaluable. It’s clear that strategic, international partnerships are key to embracing this technological evolution.”

The BOS’ “Future Skills: AI’s Role in Transforming Education and Workforce Development” delegation successfully brought together future leaders, policymakers, and industry pioneers to discuss and shape the future of education and workforce adaptability in an AI-driven era. Following the NGG, an outcomes and recommendations’ report will be compiled by delegates and shared with relevant public and private sectors in both the UK and Oman.

The NGG Delegation was inaugurated in 2013 as a means of building bridges between high-flyers in both Oman and the UK’s public and private sectors. Delegates are selected from a wide spectrum of organisations.
