Young Diplomats BOS Grantees: Reflections on Oman

BOS

June 24 2025

The British Omani Society was thrilled to host a panel bringing together three Young Diplomat Grantees from the University of Oxford’s Diplomatic Studies Programme to reflect on their study trip to Oman.

The panel included Adeel Hussain, Harry Gartside and Michael Whitehead, the three Young Diplomats who were invited to take part in this study trip by the Government of Oman. The panel was chaired by Jamie Bowden, BOS Trustee and former Ambassador to Oman.

Each of the panellist spoke thoroughly through four key themes: The Evolving UK-Oman Bilateral Relationship, the Role of Economic Diversification in Oman’s Future, Preparing Young Omanis for Oman’s Evolving and Sustainable Economy, and Oman’s Vision 2040 and Its Impact on Diplomacy.

The panel was followed by a moderated discussion exploring broader themes on the future of diplomacy, insights gained from the visit, and how these lessons apply to their current roles. A Q&A further provided discussion between members and the three young diplomat grantees, that dived deep into their experiences in Oman.
