Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori, the British-Iranians who had been detained in Iran since 2016 and 2017 respectively, have been released. Oman played a key role in this, acting as a diplomatic broker to secure their release and return home. A Royal Air Force Oman flight flew Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Ashoori to Muscat before they continued their journey to London and were reuinited with their loved ones.

The Society congratulates and thanks the Omani Government and Omani diplomacy for discreet support in securing the release, and return to the UK, of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori.

Sayyid Badr wrote "Nazanin and Anoosheh have arrived safely in Oman. Sincere thanks for the hard work and good faith in Tehran and London that made this possible. Soon they will be with their loved ones at home. We hope this result will bring further progress in the dialogue between the parties".

In a statement to the House of Commons, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said "Last December I met Omani Foreign Minister Badr to secure Oman’s diplomatic assistance. We are grateful to our friends in Oman for their support in securing the return of our nationals".
