The British Omani Society was delighted to host the Smart Industries Workshop on May 13th 2025 in Muscat, Oman, which included the Guest of Honor H.E. Salim Al Aufi - Oman’s Minister of Energy & Minerals. The workshop, which coincided with Oman Sustainability Week, was chaired by Hamid Hamirani, MD of BSGInternational and advisor to the former Minister of Finance in Oman.
The workshop’s aim was to introduce The Smart Industry Initiative to key stakeholders in Oman and connect UK start-ups with cutting edge technologies developed at the University of Oxford – ranked first globally for research for nine consecutive years – with leading public and private organisations in Oman.
The initiative promotes technology transfer designed to boost Oman’s productivity and enhance its competitiveness on the global stage. Each technology introduced through the Smart Industry Initiative is also designed to support Oman’s net zero goals, aligning with Oman Sustainability Week.

Attendees included the British Ambassador to Oman Dr. Liane Saunders, H.E. Salim Al Aufi - Oman’s Minister of Energy & Minerals, Omani British Society’s Chairman Saleh Al Zakwani and Secretary General Haifa Al Khaifi, Bp President Oman, the Chairman of Al Bajri Group, along with leadership from the technology and innovation teams at Petroleum Development Oman, OQ, and Omantel.

The BOS also hosted a panel discussion at Oman Sustainability week on May 14th entitled ‘The BOS Smart Industry Initiative: Driving Sustainable Economic Growth Through Partnerships & Tech Innovation’.
