Peter Sichel completed five operational tours in Dhofar with the SAS in the early 1970s before being commissioned in the Sultan of Oman’s Army. He served in Firqat Force until the end of the insurgency, when he transferred to the Civil Aid Department with particular responsibility for the development of the jebel and distribution of civil aid.
Last year Peter spoke about his experiences in Dhofar and his interaction with the Jebali and Dhofari people. Following his work in Dhofar Peter was asked to go to the Musandam to survey the people there and to prepare a report for the Omani government. This was at a time when there was very sparse development in this most northerly part of Oman. Peter will describe his journeys, mainly on foot, through the mountainous country and his interaction with the people living there.
