Saililng Oman is the first cruising guide to Oman's stunning coastline and one of the world's last largely unexplored cruising grounds. This authoritative pilot opens a coastline long shaped by trade, exploration and seafaring, yet still little-visited by today’s yachting community.
Sailing Oman offers practical and reliable information for mariners navigating the Sultanate's waters, while also serving as an engaging resource for travelers, historians and anyone with an interest in Oman's rich maritime heritage, coastal landscapes and seafaring traditions.
We would be delighted for you to join us, at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, for the official book launch as we explore the inspiration behind the book, share the unforgettable experiences that unfold at sea and celebrate this milestone together with the authors Reem Askalan & Jaoudat Kazoun.

About the Speakers
Reem A. Askalan is an Omani urban planner, researcher and sailor. She holds a Master of City Planning and Urban Design from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a master's degree in Near Eastern Studies from New York University (NYU) and has pursued graduate studies in Islamic Art and Architecture at the NYU Institute of Fine Arts. Her work reflects a longstanding interest in cultural heritage, maritime history and the relationship between people and place.
Jaoudat Kazoun has been closely associated with Oman since 2000. He holds a bachelor's degree in Information Technology and Computer Science from ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich)and owns and operates an industrial agricultural estate. His technical expertise and practical problem-solving have been invaluable throughout the authors' years of offshore cruising and expedition planning.
In 2012, Reem and Jaoudat embarked on a new chapter together, exchanging conventional careers for life under sail. They spent five years living aboard their catamaran, Flâneur, cruising extensively throughout the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Their voyages took them regularly to remote anchorages, challenging reefs and through some of the least-charted cruising grounds in Sudan and Egypt’s Red Sea. In 2015, captiviated by the region’s remarkable coastal beauty and sailing potential, they co-founded Red Sea Sails (redseasails.com), the first and only sailing school and charter company in the Red Sea.
In 2017, inspired to explore Oman's largely undocumented cruising waters, they embarked on an unprecendented expedition to survey the country's anchorages and coastal waters. The result is Sailing Oman: A Yachting Guide, which combines their complementary backgrounds with years of adventure sailing experience. The first comprehensive cruising guide to Oman, it offers practical, reliable and firsthand information for mariners navigating the Sultanate's waters, while also serving as an engaging resource for travelers, historians and anyone with an interest in Oman's rich maritime heritage, coastal landscapes and seafaring traditions.
