BOS Internship
Are you passionate about the Middle East? Are you interested in education and building connections between different cultures? Would you like to focus your career in international relations, government or the not-for-profit sector? This internship is a good opportunity for you to gain broad ranging experience working at a charitable organisation, supporting our small staff team with marketing, events and membership functions.
Description:
· 8-week internship – October to December 2024 (exact dates to be agreed)
· Full-time position, working hours 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Mon-Fri, with occasional evenings (37 hours a week)
· You will be based at our offices 34 Sackville Street, Mayfair, London (hybrid working, with a minimum 3 days in the office)
· Paid at the London Living Wage (equivalent annual salary £25,642.50)
What to expect:
You will learn every possible aspect of running a charitable organisation: from liaising with our members to writing articles and content for our marketing; from assisting in events planning and delivery to welcoming Omani diplomats and guests.
You will be expected to react quickly to requests and be organised, reliable, responsible and able to multitask and deliver high quality work at pace. You will work alongside our small supportive staff team (Director, Communications Manager and Events & Programming Assistant) and will add real value to the Society.
Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
1. Marketing Assistance - under the supervision of the Communications Manager:
· Monitor news and current affairs relating to Oman and produce our weekly members email Press Digest
· Assist with the Society’s communications, including social media scheduling (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter), and potentially web editing and blog writing
· Basic video content creation and editing
· Basic design work for flyers, invites and brochures etc. (in Canva)
2. Events & Programming - assisting the Events and Programming Assistant:
· Assist in the organisation and implementation of the BOS events and meetings schedule, including liaising with speakers, tracking RSVPs, editing PowerPoint presentations, attending events and ensuring their smooth-running on the day
· Assist with the coordination and marketing of BOS's other schemes for young people, including our Arabic Language Scheme.
3. Supporting our members:
· Respond to members' queries
· Undertake membership administration and other office duties as required
What we are looking for:
· Self-motivated, enthusiastic and proactive individuals
· Graduate in an appropriate field (International Relations, History, Languages etc.)
· Strong interest in Oman and the wider region
· Strong organisation skills, reliable and responsible
· Ability to work independently and flexibility and manage your own workload
· Happy to provide support to others, follow instructions and muck-in with day-to-day tasks
· Good people skills, confident in speaking with a wide range of people from diplomats to students and suppliers
· Confident in using design programmes for the production of basic marketing materials and some basic video editing
· Confident using social media
· Excellent level of written and verbal English
Please note, applicants must have the right to work in the UK and must be currently living in the UK. We cannot provide visas.
Applicants must be able to work standard office hours at our offices in central London for a minimum 3 days per week and be available to intern full time for 8 weeks from this October.
